To be honest I see no importance, more time , effort and focus should be put into the children in your own community. Yes its fine to learn about children from other conutries for educational purposes. But when it comes to actually helping children fooucs more on the children that will one day lead you.

It's Important because some kids in developing countries(Countries that are less fortunate than other countries) really need help.
